Finals: Competitive U11–U19 only; none for U9 or Rookie.

New category names: Youth A–F → U19–U9 +

U9 = Youth F · U11 = Youth E · U13 = Youth D · U15 = Youth C · U17 = Youth B · U19 = Youth A.

Eligibility uses birth year, not age on competition day. The table above applies to the 2027 event.

Qualifiers, finals & scoring +

Qualifiers: 6 routes in a timed session, typically 20–40 minutes depending on participation.

Finals: the top 8 in each Competitive category U11–U19 advance to 4 routes in rotational format. U9 and all Rookie divisions have no finals. U9 participants may also enter U11.

Scoring: 25 points for a Top or 10 for a Zone; deduct 0.1 for each unsuccessful attempt before scoring.

A FRIENDLIER START TO COMPETITION

What is Rookie?

Introduced at Vengafest 2026. Returning for its second edition in 2027.

Rookie gives newer climbers a more approachable way to experience bouldering competition, with easier routes and separate rankings from the Competitive divisions.

Available for U11, U13 & U15
These age groups cover a wide range of abilities. Rookie offers an entry point for climbers building their competition experience.

Who can enter?

  • Climbers who meet the birth-year eligibility for U11, U13 or U15.
  • Climbers who have not qualified for any bouldering competition final in the past year.
  • Choose either Rookie or Competitive. You cannot enter both divisions.

How it works

  • 6 routes in a timed session, with duration based on participant numbers.
  • A separate set of easier routes for a smoother introduction to competition.
  • Separate rankings from Competitive divisions.
  • No finals for Rookie divisions.

Why only U11, U13 & U15?

U9 already uses beginner-friendly routes. U17 and U19 typically have fewer new entrants, so Rookie focuses on the age groups with the widest range of abilities.

TEAM EVENT

Mixed Teams

Four climbers. All ages. One combined score.

4 climbers · 30+ routes · 5 best routes each

Mixed is the only team event in 2027. No U13 or Veterans teams; no finals.

Team format & multipliers +

Open to all ages. Each climber’s five highest-scoring routes contribute to the team total. The highest combined score wins. The team event has no finals.

  • Female climbers: 1.25×
  • Intermediate climbers: 0.75×
  • Open climbers: 0.5×

Multipliers combine: a female Open climber receives 1.25 × 0.5 = 0.625×.
